The publication is one of the first more comprehensive outputs on the subject of conspiracy theories in Slovakia, which is currently a focus of interest not only on the scientific community, but also on the general public, the media and politicians and security forces. The author looks primarily at the cultural phenomenon and identifies its historical and ideological contexts. At the same time, it interconnects the current knowledge of international research with examples of concrete realities of Slovak society. Conspiracy theories relate to important and sensitive spheres of social life, which are also a source of group tension (questions of morality, religion, politics, the environment, natural disasters, wars, etc.). Like many of today's rumors, conspiracy theories can be a significant indicator of the amount of anxiety and conflict shared in wider or narrower social groups, and they can be used to extract specific auto- and heterostereotypes, ideas about specific group goals, and value orientations, including in those ideologically most extreme positions. Their research is therefore a source of interdisciplinary useful information about contemporary society.
